Heads, I Win! I’m the Mayor.

This is one of those stories that you gotta love about living in a place like this:

With the race still deadlocked after Tuesday’s official vote canvass, local election officials turned to George Washington to decide who would be Forest Hills’ mayor.

Incumbent Jim Davis, who called “heads? in the two-out-of-three coin toss, was declared the winner after the first U.S. president’s head came out on top twice.

The vote for mayor was 41-41.

Forest Hills is a village I drive through on my one-mile drive home from the university. The village is essentially two mountain roads that form the sides of a valley. It’s all residential, with the exception of one apartment complex and a motel. That’s all there is to it.

Small town politics doesn’t get much smaller than that.

That’s a great story. I didn’t read TFA, but what is the population of Forest Hills? Is it over 100? I bet that 82-voter turnout is at least 60% of the population, which puts most of the rest of the country to shame.

According the census.gov, the population of Forest Hills was 330 in 2000, with around 280 eligible voters (i.e., over 18). So, sadly, it’s not as impressive as you might have hoped.
