Allison Krauss

I received a terrific Christmas present from my sister and her family: Now That I’ve Found You: Collection by Allison Krauss and Union Station.

Voice. Like. An. Angel.

Several songs on this album just rise to the very top: When You Say Nothing At All, Broadway, and the goosepimple-raising gospel number, In the Palm of Your Hand. I had the album on in the truck the other day with Palm of Your Hand playing, and I watched my seven-year-old start to tear up. She couldn’t even explain why (of course, now she thinks I’m overplaying the album — easy come, easy go).

Back in the late 80s, I saw Allison and Union Station play one Sunday afternoon at a bluegrass concert in Urbana, IL. She was still just a local teenage musician who was on the verge of making it big. Then she did make it big.

And I didn’t.

Oh well. Some of us gots talent, and some of us …

I listened to that CD incessantly the last two years of grad school. One of my favorites.

And if you can believe this: The moment I read your post I was in the middle of putting a soundtrack to some video we shot on Lucy’s second birthday, and I was trying to decide which song from that album to include. Spooky!
