Stepping Aside, part II
As I was writing the immediately preceding post (and especially the stuff about moving away from lecture) my thoughts turned to a conversation that took place last week between Robert at brightMystery and the folks at KitchenTableMath. The discussion took a number of interesting twists and turns, but some of it addressed Robert’s use of a new pedagogical methodology in his Calc class. This methodology could certainly be described as learner-centered and it involves new roles for the teacher.
If I try to characterize the discussion, I’m sure I’ll end up misrepresenting someone’s assertions, so I’ll just encourage you to visit KTM if you’re interested.
